Working resource

What should the next person need to know?

A small handoff checklist for carrying decisions and understanding forward with the work.

At Solsys, documenting decisions, configuration changes and implementation details was part of operational handoff. Working with agents brings the same question back in another setting: what will someone need when they return to this?

Here is a newly written checklist I would use to make that question concrete. It is a resource for this space, not a recovered employer template.

A useful handoff

Enough context to continue, inspect or question the work.

  • Purpose

What were we trying to make possible, and for whom?

  • The change

What changed? Where can the next person inspect it?

  • Decisions

What did we choose, why, and which alternatives mattered?

  • Responsibilities

Who owns each remaining step, dependency or approval?

  • Evidence

What was actually checked, with which result? Separate observation from expectation.

  • Open questions

What is uncertain, incomplete or known to fail?

  • Continue from here

What is the next useful action, and where are its boundaries?
